Musings.

well i was out that day when i spotted this couple walking hand in hand a few feet in front of me. the guy was caucasian, and the girl, whoa… i was, y’ know, thinking, “where do you find girls that look like <b>that</b>?!” well to cut a long story short she looked really good… until she turned around. then it was like a personal encounter with a wildebeast. from the rear end. i swear, for a moment there, i heard God’s voice, and He spake unto me, “she has Inner Beauty, and only the Man can see that. the eyes of fools have been blinded by lust, and they note not the brilliance of her personality…”

well i say, Man, if you wanna keep her, you’re mighty free to do so, preferably somewhere safe; Inner Beauty and all. and get yourself insured won’t ya? me, i’d rather be a fool any day.

imagine this heartwarming situation:

pa, ma and junior go out one lazy sunday afternoon for a good time. they wind up at a fast food restaurant, where ma feeds pa french fries, while junior coats his face with ice cream. all is nice and dandy till pa’s third shows up. i say third because up until then, ma was supposed to be pa’s only <i>other</i> half. suddenly she’s a third. she can’t really accept that, and to make matters worse, the original third didn’t know she <i>was</i> a third, and a scuffle breaks out. junior is unperturbed, engrossed in his dessert. third throttles pa, and ma attacks third. the counter staff start taking bets.

wouldn’t you just love to be there?

here’s something fun to do:

get into an empty elevator and stand facing the other way, with your back towards the door. when other people get on, look at them weird. some will succumb to the pressure and out of sheer curiosity, face the same way as you. when you get to your floor, as you’re walking out, turn back, give them a funny stare, and remark, “crazy people…” i bet that will get you some recognition.

what’s with people who say they’re going to the toilet to “take a shit”? never could figure it out. i generally go there to leave one. ah well, each to his own i guess.

Fly Away

Lyrics of a song by singapore-born singer named Corrinne May. (www.corrinnemay.com) I love it. gets the occasional mention but otherwise buried in obscurity where the local media is concerned. took me some time to transcribe…

Fly Away
—————
“when will you be home?” she’ll ask
as i watch the planes take off
we both know we have no clear answer
to where my dreams may lead

she’s watched me as i crawled and stumbled
as a child she was my world
and now to let me go i know she bleeds
and yet she says to me,

“you can fly so high,
keep your gaze upon the sky,
i’ll be praying every step along the way
even though it breaks my heart to know
we’ll be so far apart,
i love you too much to make you stay;
baby fly away…”

autumn leaves fell into springtime
and silver-painted hair
daddy called one evening saying,
“i need you please come back.”

when i saw her laying in her bed
fraigile as a child
pale just like an angel taking flight
i held her as i cried;

“you can fly so high,
keep your gaze upon the sky,
i’ll be praying every step along the way
even though it breaks my heart to know
we’ll be so far apart,
i love you too much to make you stay;
baby fly away….

oh….

i love you too much to make you stay;
baby fly away…

fly… fly…”

bought a new phone… the SGH N620. pretty happy with it apart from its inability to ring AND vibrate at the same time. woke up this morning feeling like someone had bashed my skull in with a hammer somewhere in the course of the night. completely knocked out for half of the maths lecture, which was about probablility, so i guess i didn’t really miss that much. then the projector broke down and we were let off nearly half an hour early from SC105… whooo…. this has gotta be the shortest day this week. shall spend it sleeping. =)

transcribed corrinne may’s fly away and discovered it isn’t a love song at all… it’s about her mother’s death… ah well… heart-breaking anyway. recently fell in love with don maclean’s vincent (starry starry night) after discovering it wasn’t a cheesy love song either, but a tribute to vincent van gogh and his wretched life… strange.

trying to update my hall webpage. i have recently inherited a mishmash of HTML files, js files, a cgi bin, php pages and a forum script i have yet to figure out. this is why commenting is VERY important, children… argh.

cycled to fong seng’s in the wee hours of sunday morning with wei hsiung. was crazy… got lost on the way there… but managed to find the place. filled ourselves up, then started back… and that’s when it started raining really heavily. and i mean cats and dogs. felt like the sky was falling down on us… thunder and lightning too. came back really drenched… but for the prata it was worth it. will do it again given the chance. might get my own bike soon. for utilitarian purposes.

now feeling melancholic. managed to finish my electronics tut today… all of it. with the correct answers… i feel slightly happy. start of school again tomorrow. this bloody sucks. programming lab in the morning. might go home after the lecture. wanna check out the bikes. =)

i was wondering…

have you ever noticed Burger King wraps their burgers differently from Macdonald’s? in a BK wrapping, the edges of the wrapper meet at the <i>top</i>, dead center of the lovely sesame seed bun, whereas someone in Macdonalds thought it’d be a really cute idea to have customers all over the island unwrap their burgers to find it upside down. what’s the rationale behind such things anyway?? who decides? an opinion poll or some guy at a desk in a suit and tie who’s probably vegetarian, drives a honda civic to and from work, has a wife and two kids, plays scrabble on weekends and has absolutely no inkling of the annoyance brought on by having to flip one’s meal the right side up before consumption? also, why do the big macs have the right to a box? is the box better? does it keep the burger warm? is it more drafty? are the fillet o’ fishes picketing for burger equality? BK gives a reason why they use the foil wrapping for their whoppers. is that the reason i have to pay $7 for a meal? that’s 2 bucks for the extra 1 cm radius on my patty. and why doesn’t BK believe in having customized wrappers for <i>all</i> of their burgers, the way M does? why do staff… heck… why do <b>I</b> have to rely on pencil markings scribbled on the wrapper to tell what flavour of dead cow in a bun i’m about to ingest?

now on to discounts. BK seems to have some form of special going on all the time. what’s strange is, no one seems to know about these things. they sneak new items onto the menu without telling anyone. “Whoa, Nelly! look! something you ain’t seen before! Surpriseeeee!” Pretty counter-productive if you ask me. they never seem to have discounts on current items either. if they have a new promotion, chances are it’s a new burger of some sort. and the discounted prices will <i>stay</i>. that’s the interesting bit. when the mushroom swiss king first came out, it was going at a special rate of 2 bucks. 2 years down the line it still is. now the golden arches, on the other hand, have this thing for discounting age old items for about a month or so, and raising prices on other items to make up. then next month it’ll be something else. occasionally they do get a change of heart and promote something new. again for a month or so, then then take it away. only to bring it back again in the future. (McPepper, Samurai burger, Kiasu Burger)

i say if you wanna run a fast food restaurant, then quit fucking around with the wrappers. and make up your mind on whether you want the burger to stay or go. once it’s here, it stays, if it has to go, don’t bring it back. (”due to popular demand” my ass.. if it was that popular, why take it off the menu in the first place?) Heck if i were to run a burger restaurant, know what i’d call it? “Gary’s Burger Restaurant”. that’s what i’d call it. plain and simple. ALL my burgers will come in styrofoam boxes labelled exactly as they are. no fancy names, no corporate bullshit. if a box contained a chicken burger, it’d say “CHICKEN BURGER” across the top in point 24 Arial Bold. if it included cheese then the box will read “CHICKEN BURGER WITH CHEESE”. that way there will be no chance of misunderstanding, and anyone who still has trouble telling burgers apart after that can jolly well take the box home and shove it where the sun don’t shine.
