The News In Brief Sentence Fragments.

3 days into DDP.

Entire hardware system split into four parts, with each pair taking charge of one.

Sensory: Kelvin and I
Transmission: Joshua and Yee Huei
Reception: Kumar and Shiwei
Locomotive: Yang Chin and Yao Quan

Progress update:

Hardware:
Sensory subsystem design complete. Simulation sucessful. Built prototype circuit. First two didn’t work, despite optimism of software simulation results. Pounced on Prof Goh while he was doing his rounds in the lab. Absorbed Pearls of Wisdom. Subsequently flung the entire design out of the window in favour of totally new approach. Revision 3 worked like a charm. One sensor pair now mounted on the development board. Am proud to announce greatest progress of all teams in the lab (as of now.) Might start work soon on improving collision-detection sensor by switching to contactless design, detecting obstacles in front while still a substantial distance away. Will hence eliminate need for robot to crash before declaring that the path is blocked.

Reception subsystem design complete. Simulation results optimistic. Prototype circuit functions somewhat. Quite heartening to see row of LEDs light up in binary representation of current ASCII keystroke input. Am not involved in development. Don’t know much else.

Transmission subsystem design status unknown. Scope of development merged with that of the reception team sometime yesterday. Would presume it works, as transmission team seemed to share reception team’s joy at success of this afternoon’s experiment. Am not involved in development. Don’t know much else.

Locomotive subsystem design complete. Full marks from software simulator. Are currently waiting for Kelvin and I to finish mounting the sensors before starting work on building the prototype. Am not involved in development. Don’t know much else.

Software:
GridMaze class half-done. Nothing else worth mentioning. Coding frenzy schduled to start tomorrow, with hardware development put on hold.

Stuff to be written:
System driver.
VirtualRobot class for purpose of simulation.
Pathfinding algo.
Exploration algo.

Hope to tweak everything nice and tight and efficient. Might have a shot at the $320… heh heh heh.

In other muse:
Someone should set up fiendster.com. Much like Friendster, only one would list all his / her enemies. Might be interesting to see who the person you hate hates.

exams over for almost a week now. up so early in the morning simply because DDP starts today. you know there’s something seriously wrong with your timetable when you wake up in the morning and the first thing that crosses your mind is “GOD DAMN THIS SUCKS!”

anyway, had some fun the past week. lived it like a man with cancer would. every minute was cherished. i swear. went out with sebas, yunjia, gina, ryan, minjia, lee lim… also met up with caiyun and kaisi over a late lunch. (tea?)

can’t type more, gotta fly now.

just came back from sean’s birthday celebrations. they made him finish THE stout and egg combo, smeared his face with cake, tied him to a lamp-post and spray-painted his body.
