Evolutionary ART |
| Project Summary |
Evolutionary art is a comparatively recent art-form, and is virtually exclusively generated on computers. The basic idea behind evolutionary art is that the artist is able to control the development of a piece of work through some form of “selection”, in a manner analogous to natural selection. In all evolutionary art one or more parent pictures or virtual sculptures are mutated and/or crossbred to produce a number of “children”, which are then selected again. The more advanced systems allow the artist to assign a “goodness” factor to each child. The results of this “selection” are then used to produce the next “generation”. Evolutionary systems allow the artist to generate complex computer artwork without them needing to delve into the actual programming used. Most, if not all, genetic art systems, and many organic art systems, are “Evolutionary”. Genetic art is entirely computer generated, based on the ideas of Genetic Algorithms. This work will involve the development of evolutionary art that taking into consideration the likes and dislikes of a user to produce a resultant art piece. Particular, the candidate will develop an evolutionary art piece using J2ME technology. |

Software DES cracker |
| Project Summary |
Design and implement a server to which clients may register and, upon registering, receive a subset of possible DES keys to test, given a known plaintext and corresponding ciphertext, whether any of the received keys produces the ciphertext for that particular plaintext. The server should be able to balance the load on individual clients upon registering and deregistering. Supporting client software may be required to test and demonstrate the cracker. NOTE: DES is being replaced by AES but AES is strong enough to resist brute force attacks and, therefore, is not a meaningfull experiment platform. |

Intrusion detection in Ad Hoc Networks |
| Project Summary |
Intrusion Detection is used as a last line of defense against attacks on Systems and Networks. Among the strategies to detect intrusion, one is to have sufficient knowledge of the normal and abnormal behaviour of teh system so that each behaviour can be classified as either normal or abnormal. In this project, students will use data generated from simulation of Ad Hoc Networks to build intrusion detection systems. |

Program execution stack inspector |
| Project Summary |
To design and implement a monitoring program for the program execution stack to detect arguments that might cause buffer overflow (resulting in a denial of service or unauthorized access to a host) and modify those arguments to be of legitimate length to prevent buffer overflow attacks. |

Performance Study of P2P File Sharing by Simulations |
| Project Summary |
P2P file sharing is a very popular and important Internet application. P2P traffic has already dominated the Internet bandwidth. The purpose of this project is to study the performance of P2P file sharing by simulations and find out how the performance will be affected by different network parameters. |

Watermarking Techniques for Image and Document Authentication |
| Project Summary |
In a digital world, authentication of digital images and documents is of prime importance. In this project we intend to use visible and invisible watermarks for authentication of digital images. the technique should be able to authenticate the image, in addition, be able to provide the region of tampering if it is tampered. Java-based platform will be used for this purpose. |
