The Size of Our World

Rense has posted a striking set of CG renders depecting the relative size of Earth in relation to some of our heavenly neighbours.

If we’re really alone in the universe, then daymn - we must be really special.

Check them out here.

Wherein I am Inundated with Gay Pr0n

So I was just browsing around on Flickr, right, when I notice I have a new message in my inbox. “That’s odd,” I think, as I don’t usually get messages through Flickr’s messaging system.

Turns out a nice fella named boy-sjc has decided to add me as a friend. According to Flickr, I have “no obligation for you to reciprocate, unless you want to. ” Very well. I decide to find out who this mysterious person is by clicking on his profile.

Man! This guy has many contacts!” was the first thought that crossed my mind as I scanned his friends list, keeping an eye peeled for perhaps a common acquaintance.

Then I clicked on his photostream.

(You just know something’s up when the site loads the placeholders before the pictures themselves actually download, and they’re titled things like “beefcakemen15″.)

All photos in his stream are marked “friends only” - which means that only A Chosen Few are able to view his eclectic pictorial collection of much, much bratwurst-mingling. This was the most work-safe picture I could extract. If you’re really interested in the rest of the photostream I could, you know, maybe hook the both of you up or something.

Whatever floats your boat.

Wherein an Apache Helicopter Amuses a Baby

I had almost forgotten about this, but anyway..

A couple of weeks ago, I was at home watching the video of an AH-64 vapourizing 3 suspected militants from a distance, when my baby niece wobbled into my room.

5 years on this good earth, and barely taller than my hip, she took one look at the screen and let out a happy gurgle.

*gurgle* “Those men die!” (or something similar).

That girl’s got a future.

Amazing Singer

This guy does an acoustic cover of Jason Mraz’s Sleep All Day. I don’t know if the arrangement is his own or Mraz’s but at times I can catch glimpses of “The Remedy” peeking through.

Still, it’s awesome, and I wish I could sing like this.

Space: The Next Frontier

Complete with burning rocket fuel and melted cars.

Jobs and Gates

So one day, Steve Jobs and Bill Gates sat down for dinner - no, seriously…

No doubt planning world domination. They’re just missing Eric Schmidt.

Those Wacky Japs

Side-splittingly funny Japanese hidden-cam show. Makes Candid Camera appear to be about as funny as a documentary on the mating habits of the wildebeest.

If this were the US, they’d probably be sued till Kingdom Come.

New Blog Added

I’ve added a new blog to the blogroll. OldNewThing is a pretty well-written blog on MSDN updated by a Microsoft staffer named Raymond Chen. Don’t know how you’ll find them, but his articles generally come across to me as rather Reader’s Digest-isque, and make great reading material.

If you’re not the type of person who’d be interested in, say, the Windows XP boot sequence, then you might want to skip the technical articles. There are, however, enough non-tech writeups to keep even the most IT-averse of you folks happy.

Check it out!

A few articles I particularly enjoyed:
People are sensitive to how icons look
Announcements on the Ferry
Stories of Mathematics

Circumhorizontal Arc

Pretty much the most fucking amazing picture you’ll see all week:

This is a circumhorizontal arc, and is caused by sunlight scattering through the ice crystals in high-altitude cirrus clouds. This one in particular was recently spotted over Idaho.
