The Story of a USMC Sniper

Interesting read. Sorry no time to elaborate. Busy in office. (Stealing time to blog. See how much I love you folks?)

During a large-scale attack on Easter Sunday, Wilson says, he spotted six gunmen on a rooftop about 400 yards away. In about 8 seconds he squeezed off five rounds — hitting five gunmen in the head. The sixth man dived off a 3-story building just as Wilson got him in his sights, and counts as a probable death.

“You could tell he didn’t know where it was coming from. He just wanted to get away,” Wilson said. Later that day, he said, he killed another insurgent.

Weird-ass Dell Hardware Bug

Someone found out that the Dell Optiplex GX520 can be sent into digital stasis by placing a mobile phone close to the unit, then sending an sms to it.

Freaky.

(Via digg.)

Hurhur… this reminds me of Gavin’s WiFi which goes screwy when whenever his microwave oven is switched on.

The Anonymous Message Server

So here’s the deal. You leave a message which could be read by anyone, anywhere (no telling who), and when you submit, it get the message left for you by the previous person. It’s like playing Message In A Bottle with an infinite number of people… ok the analogy sucked, but you get it.

It’s quite fun… for a while.

Illegal Cheese

Brie de Meaux

Who knew that one could get on the Wrong Side of the Law (US law, anyway… I was unable to uncover anything about this on the AVA’s website) with illicit cheese?

Read all about this guy’s short quest for Brie de Meaux: Crafty wholesalers, blackmarkets, shady deals and discreet whispering - the article’s got them all.

Those with the right connections get invited to illegal-cheese parties, like one recently thrown by a San Francisco lawyer who agreed to speak on the condition of anonymity. He tells me he smuggled a wheel of époisses on his way back from vacationing in Vienna. He wrapped the cheese tightly in plastic, buried it in his checked luggage, and invited his 20 most important friends over for an illicit-cheese party. “People looked at me a little differently after that,” he says. “There was more respect—a little bit of a ‘He’s not just a lawyer, he’s a wild cheese smuggler’ type of thing.”

Logos Redone in Web 2.0 Style

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.usYou know them: Flickr, del.icio.us, digg, gliffy, YouTube, etc… So-called “Web 2.0″ sites, which harness the power of the masses to offer up everything from online productivity apps to photo albums..?

Someone was dreamy enough to wonder: what if famous logos were redone in the distinct 2D-with-colour-gradient style that for some reason seems very popular in the Web 2.0 world? Well, the folks over at yayhooray seem to have the answer. The submission thread currently stands at 22 pages long, and contains dozens of “what-if” entries, including some I particularly like (especially the Nike one!). If you have time to spare, I’d recommend that you have a look-see too…

Alex! Sounds like fun for you and your mad Flash skillz.

UPDATE: Some of the logos can be found on flickr.
