Singapore Town Acap
These guys are pretty tight. I wonder where they come from and where they perform, though.
I miss acap. Sorry about not being able to do the Oct performance… =(

I promised to post back with more, so here’s more.
Upgrading from a GeForce FX 5900 (ripoff card which does not fully support the DX 9 codepath, at least in HL2) to a mid-range GeForce 7600 GT makes me warm and happy in special places. Here’s the lowdown:
| FX 5900 | 7600GT | |
| Fabrication process | 130 nm | 90 nm |
| Core clock | 400 MHz | 560 MHz |
| Memory clock | 850 MHz | 1400 MHz |
| Vram | 128 MB | 256 MB |
| Fill rate | 3200 MT/s | 6720 MT/s |
There are many more numbers involved in a full comparison, for example memory bus size, in which I actually downgraded, but I’m happy enough. The new card has taken me from this:
To this:
…which mayn’t seem like much to the unaccustomed eye - but a world of difference to someone who knows what to watch out for. Check out the self-shadowing on the face, the house in the background, the colour of the kerb, the soft shadow on the ground, and the total absense of that horrid, unnatural reddish cast over everything. If more contrast is needed, perhaps consider the ugliness that is the lowest graphical setting:
A world of difference, indeed.

So I bought myself a Leadtek WinFast 7600GT TDH as a stopgap upgrade… as an expedient fix, shall we say, till my planned overhaul next year. It mayn’t be bleeding edge, but it’s sure gonna be one hell of a performance boost over the FX5900 for me. $293, plus I get 2 free games in the box: Serious Sam 2 and dunno what else. Pretty ok I guess. I couldn’t get the card to plug all the way in due to some obstruction in the case below the motherboard, out of my line of sight. Had the problem with my old card too. Decided to just leave it be. If it’s in halfway, it’s in far enough. Heh.

GODDAYMNN, you sexy motherfucker!
Currently running at an ugly 60Hz refresh cos my drivers are still downloading. Will post back with more.

I attended a wedding today. It’s scary, watching a friend get married and knowing he’s exactly your age. It’s at once joyous and solemn and incredibly thought-provoking. It marks the beginning of life for two people together - “in sickness and strength, for better or worse … “. Those words as spoken bear weight far greater than most people realize, and yet to the ear sounds as the sweetest thing one could ever hope to hear. With those words you vow to give and do everything you possibly can towards cherishing, and caring for, another person.
With those words you pledge your life.
Whei Jie and Fabia, though you both may never read this, wherever you are, I wish you two all the best.

…and hence, I have dutifully registered myself with the NS portal. From now on, you all may reach me at fuckyou<@>ns<.>sg.
Would’ve chosen “knn” for a shorter and sweeter address, but it was already taken.
There’s plentiful to do on the site, ranging from fun-filled activities like booking your RT to more exciting stuff like seeing when you’re due for reservist, and in which hellhole you’re going to be in. You can plan a to-do list, search a FAQ (in broken English) and even check your past IPPT results! Unfortunately however, I was not able to change my default password because the system flat-out refused to recognize <random vulgar phrase> as a valid alphanumeric string. Ah well.
At least I still have eMart credits. Maybe I’ll buy 40 bottles of rifle oil and get it delivered to my doorstep.
P.S. From the site:
From December 2004, you can look forward to a new mode of being notified of your NS training and activities. Instead of the usual hard copy NS notification (also known as the “SAF100″), you will now be notified of upcoming NS activities via SMS, email and phone.
Yes. Thanks a lot.

HP has out a new camera targetted squarely at the vain, the obese and the neurotic. The Photosmart series cameras all come with a “slimming feature” which purports to shrink your onscreen lard-ass into a cuter, more petite lard-ass… without the hassle of sensible diets and excercise. Interestingly, the feature is located in the menu under “artistic effects”, to make it that much easier to live with lying to yourself.

I just noticed Chin Yaw posted his exam results on his blog a couple of months back (must have missed it then).
Chin Yaw, if you’re reading this, those are disgusting results man… Any kid trying to learn the alphabet from your results slip would never get past the first letter. Oh, and I can’t comment on your blog cos you discriminate against non-blogger people. Hmmmph…!

For those who dont’ yet know, mashups are exactly what their name implies: a no-holds-barred bastard offspring of two or more songs. The bastardization of Green Day and Oasis is a pretty well known one, for example.
Anyways, been checking out lots of mashups over the past few days, and some are surprisingly good. Click ZAP! below to listen, and ZAP! again to skip a track. Bonus karma if you can name the songs used in a particular mix.
