The importance of a sound tech

This is why sound technicians are important.

The Good Lord knows that I am genuinely struck by the awesomeness that is JerryC, the guy who arranged Canon Rock, but as I watched this video, I couldn’t stop laughing, simply because the sound is so awful. Rarely do I post anything which I do not consider awesome, let alone something which I think sucks, but I feel everyone has got to get a load of this. The drummer, especially, sounds like an auntie banging on a washboard with her sandal, and the clanging cymbals make me feel like a sous chef in the kitchen at dinnertime.

UPDATE: I just found this site while poking through some of YouTube’s comments. Check it out… many many redeeming vids of this legend. (Check out his cover of the Right Now solo…)

I like noodles

Have you ever been hungry but felt too lazy to fix yourself something to eat? I have. At times like these I think about how wonderful it’d be to have a machine like this…

Forget Google

If you have any questions, you can ask Miss Dewey.

On the WSM issue

I’m not using her full name here because I’m not out to troll for hits on Technorati, and if you don’t know what I’m talking about, you might want to check out the #1-ranked search term on Technorati today.

That said, I fail to grasp why people are blasting her for expressing on her blog what is essentially a very honest opinion of Singaporean society. It’s pragmatic, maybe too much, but not entirely untrue.

The resulting flurry of vitriolic, knee-jerk responses to her original post remind me of nothing less than an online witch-hunt, and I’m willing to bet that a sizable number of people out for her blood are doing so entirely on the basis of today’s Straits Times report, having never actually read the “offending” article, nor the original (OMG-I’m-fucked) gripe.

No point in dwelling on this - here’s a guy who agrees with me (or I with him) and his post says it all:

There are people who, despite their family backgrounds, have managed to make it in this world, so just because you cannot doesn’t mean it’s someone else’s fault.

I swear, some people are just bloody brainless sheep.

Uh, these two sites are affiliated, right?

…right?

Else, we are looking at a very blatant, in-your-face ripoff.

Overheard in e2:

<thedeadguy> I’m trying to decide if my 18 yo “daughter” is ready for “TheDeadGuy”

<thedeadguy> As well as whether or not she’s ready to know about my curious involvement with Lutherans.

<haze> no one is “ready” for TheDeadGuy

<thedeadguy> This is true… I don’t know though, she just told me how fond she is of Marilyn Manson… how shocking could TDG be?

<haze> My local Costco now stocks only one kind of instant oatmeal variety pack, some “organic” brand that includes the flavor, “Flax & Oats”. The Boomers have arrived.

<Halspal> You can never go home again, man. I read that daylog deal and think you’re digging for an unpleasant experience.

<TheDeadGuy> I get that “Flax & Oats” stuff from the Food Bank I go to.

<haze> I find TheDeadGuy far more disturbing. At least with Manson you can be confident it’s all an act.

<Halspal> I was hooked up with a woman with kids for a while. They’re ridiculously complicated relationships and there is absolutely no upside for the outsider. All you could ever hope to do is mitigate suckieness.

<rootbeer277> Dudes are scaring me. Tell me how to avoid growing old and breaking down, like my old car did last week.

<TheDeadGuy> I feared the unpleasant experience… but the reunion has been much goodness. She graduated last year with high honors and 6 scholarship offers… which is interesting because her mother failed her GED four times.

<TheDeadGuy> She said it is possible due to me reading to her while her mother watched “Cops”

<Halspal> I had a step-father who pulled it pretty well, but he should have gotten a medal for the effort involved.

This is why I love e2.

American Edit revisited

Quite a while back I wrote about American Edit, the Green Day mashup album which caused quite a stir on the web. Now browsing through YouTube recently I found these wonderful videos set to some of the tracks on the album. The first one’s called Whatsername (Susanna Hoffs) and is a delightful mix of Green Day’s Whatsername and The Bangles’ Manic Monday.

It takes a great ear and an incredible imagination to come up with a good mashup, so if AMVs aren’t really your thing, just minimise the browser and savour the music.

Enjoy.
