Yay new toy…!

Just came back from COMEX… Damn bloody tired, but ’twas a fruitful day. :)

The spoils:
The spoils

  • Canon EOS 400D with EF-S 18-55mm/3.5 MkII kit lens
  • EF 50mm f/1.8 MkII prime lens
  • 2 x 2GB CF cards
  • a Canon carry-around bag
  • an 80GB external HDD
  • an EF Lens Work III coffee-table book
  • 20 DVD+Rs

Total damage:more than I’d care to face up to.

I actually had this in mind as I did my product research in the weeks leading up to today; however a last-minute sway by forces unknown had me going to the fair with the Nikon D40x in mind. The Nikon had arguably the better deal too, with a thousand and one freebies thrown in to sweeten the deal… But somehow the uncertainty all went away after I spent 40 minutes at the Canon booth - and there you have it - my very first DSLR.

Roadmap to literacy

In response to Miss Teen USA (South Carolina)’s analysis of the lack-of-maps problem in the United States, some folks on ze Intarnets have condensed her action-plan into an easy to understand map. It includes The Iraqs, South Africa and Such As. Brilliant!

Also, if you somehow missed the earlier post, here’s a subtitled version for easier understanding.

A long wait…

a long waitSo I noticed the price of HL2: Episode 1 has dropped to $9.90 USD… and having nothing better to do on a boring afternoon away from work, I just bought it on Steam. However the thing is 4.7GB - and even downloading at 1.2Mbps is going to take some time.

Shit… Maybe I should go take a nap and come back later.

ta.

Update: This game kicks major ass…!

Sunroof in-a-flash

Did you know you can get anything on eBay? Did you?

Do you want your car to have the look of a real sunroof?
You can install it in 5 minutes!!
Extremely fashion and new aparent sun roof, made of a sticker that will give any car the image of a real sunroof.

<snip>

High Status at a very low price !!!

A CAR WITH A SUNROOF LOOKS EXTREMELY GOOD!!!

This brings Sad to a whole new level of sad - much like fixing spoilers to your trishaw… or something.

Bonus: Read the Q&A with the seller at the bottom of the page…

The IT Crowd

I’ve been recommending this to quite a few people over the past few days. If you’ve somehow missed watching this in spite of all my exhorting, here’s another chance. It’s bloody hilarious. Quirky British geek sitcom humour… nice!

This, btw, is season 2 episode 1 part 1. Parts 2 and 3 are found in the links that appear once Part 1 finishes.

The US needs more maps

Insightful Miss South Carolina is all the rage on the Internet these days, with a stunning plan to tackle illiteracy in the US.

Tears in pink (and deja-vu)

Much like Channel 5, I’m now into re-runs.

Here’s one called Tears in Pink:

Hairspray is awesome

I’m not talking about the aerosol here - The 2007 film adaptation of a musical adaptation of a 1988 movie is a wonderfully feel-good show through and through. The cast delivers (Travolta is hilarious as Edna), the choreography is dazzling and the soundtrack is just unbelievably ear-wormy-catchy.

The audience I was watching this with was obviously as entertained as I was - boisterous laughter and even applause broke out at sporadically throughout the show. Me, I was grinning all the way through the funny bits like some glassy-eyed idiot.

It’s good. Words don’t do this justice. Catch it if you can!

Update:
Rottentomatoes calls it an “energetic, wholly entertaining musical romp” and gives it an aggregate score of 93%.

Metacritic gives it an 81 (Universal Acclaim) with the New York Post and the San Francisco Chronicle - among others - giving it a perfect 100%.

In office at 6am…

…again.
